What if we all were prophets?

Readings for Sunday, September 27 — 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Numbers 11:25-29; Psalm 19:8, 10, 12-14; James 5:1-6; Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • As the first reading tells us, we do not control where God’s spirit flows. When have you experienced a prophet where you least expected one?

  • The second reading contains very harsh words for those who have profited at the expense of the poor. How is this righteous anger relevant in today’s world?

  • In the Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples, “Whoever is not against us is for us.” Who or what seems to be working against God here and now? Who or what might surprise us by working for God?

  • How have you been prophetic in your own life? Where could you become more prophetic? Think about different ways to be a prophet, not simply by saying but by doing, too.
