If I had a lock on the second coming of Jesus and someone did something with animals across the street, they just might have more people attending. Young people love animals and many have pets. Invite young adults to plan the annual St. Francis Day Pet Blessing Ceremony. Have them plan the ritual and lead most of it. The pastor can then invoke the blessing on all the animals and sprinkle each one with holy water. Have a local zoo? Invite them to bring the “zoomobile” or some interesting animals over for the day and give away a few memberships to young adults in the community. Care for all creation is a central tenet of the Catholic faith that many young adults don’t know about.
