Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini faced many difficulties when she moved to the United States from her native Italy. She had been sent by Pope Leo XVIII to work in New York City and care for poor Italian immigrants. When she arrived, Frances was unable to open an orphanage and was told soon thereafter that she should return to Italy. Frances decided to stay. Eventually she would start 67 schools, orphanages, and hospitals in the United States. Saint Frances is the patron saint of hospital administrators, immigrants, and impossible causes. Her feast day is celebrated on November 13.

Young Adult Ministry Idea: Talk about the needs you see in your community. Are there programs at your parish that work with people who are poor and marginalized? If so, how might young adults get involved? If not, are there other community groups you might work with to address the needs of the marginalized? Make a plan to contribute or volunteer to these causes in some way or invite someone from these ministries or organizations to come and speak with the young adults in your parish about the issues marginalized communities face and how you might get involved.
