St. Anatolia

St. Anatolia, a young woman in ancient Italy, was courted by a man named Aurelius, but refused his advances. Though her choice was supported by a visit from an angel, it also led to the arrest of Anatolia and her sister Victoria during Emperor Trajanus Decius’s persecution of Christians. They were banished to Thora, where Anatolia was locked in a room with a venomous serpent. When the snake refused to bite her, her guard was so moved that he converted to Christianity. Nonetheless, Anatolia was martyred by the sword, as was her sister. Her feast day is July 9.
