You Belong to Christ

Readings for Sunday, July 14 — 15th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Zechariah 12:10-11; 13:1; Psalm 63:2-6, 8-9; Galatians 3:26-29; Luke 9:18-24

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • This passage from Zechariah, in a Christian context, is often interpreted as referring to Jesus as the descendant of David who is pierced through for our sins. What, in the sacramental life of the Church, is the fountain of purity to which this text refers?
  • Paul assures the Galatians that every ethnic, racial, cultural, and hierarchical distinction that the world puts upon us is made null and void by our unity in Christ Jesus. We are made one through our Baptism. When Christ claims us in Baptism, we are given freedom from the claims of the world. How do we see this being lived out in the Church today? How do you use you freedom from the claims of the world?
  • Jesus tells his disciples that anyone who wishes to follow him must take up his or her cross daily. What does it mean to take up our cross every day and follow Jesus?
