Being God’s People on Earth

Readings for Sunday, August 11, 2019 — 19th Sunday of Ordinary Time

Wisdom 18:6-9; Psalm 33:1, 12, 18-22; Hebrews 11:1-2,8-19; Luke 12:32-48

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • The psalmist urges us to “exult” in the Lord because God is kind to God’s people. In what ways can we glorify God’s kindness in everyday life? Are there specific actions we can do to exult God?

  • The second reading tells the story of Abraham who journeyed to the Promised Land and began a new line of descendants. How can we make our faith strong like Abraham’s? In what ways can we deal with questions that can come up about our faith?

  • Luke tells of how Jesus urged his disciples to be vigilant servants because “at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.” What does it mean to be a vigilant Christian today? How can we be vigilant servants? In what ways can we live like Jesus?
