Suggested Reflection Questions:

• The Wisdom of Ben Sira (commonly referred to as Sirach, the Greek version of the author’s name) is comprised of the divinely inspired words of a Jewish sage and teacher who focuses on the topic of moral instruction. Today’s reading focuses on the virtue of humility. In today’s culture of reality TV stars and social media celebrities drawing  attention to themselves, what does it mean to be humble? How do you remain humble? 
• The psalmist sings of a God who protects widows, orphans, the poor, and the imprisoned. God makes the land and the people whole while restoring justice. What does God’s special care for the vulnerable require of those who profess to love God? What can we do to help those who are vulnerable in our community?
• Jesus, dining at the home of a notable Pharisee, observes how eagerly the guests take the places of honor at the host’s table. He tells them a parable to illustrate the significance of humility and encourages them to extend hospitality to those that won’t help them gain status or prestige (i.e. the poor and vulnerable). How does Jesus exhibit humility in his interactions with people from all walks of life? How can we imitate his humility in our daily lives?
