Giving Rest

Readings for July 6, 2014 — 14th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Zechariah 9:9-10; Psalm 145:1-2,8-9,10-11, 13-14; Romans 8:9, 11-13; Matthew 11:25-30

Suggested Reflection Questions:

  • Our Savior is “meek” yet able to bring peace to all nations. How can you bring positive change to the world through meekness rather than pompousness and power?

  • St. Paul teaches us that we can’t live according to the needs of the flesh, but instead according to the needs of the Spirit. What comes to mind when you think of holiness? What changes can you make to your life today in order to live a more holy life?

  • Jesus encourages us to become more childlike in this week’s Gospel. What does this mean to you? Jesus also tells us that he will lighten our burdens and give us rest. How can you relieve someone else of their burdens today? Take some time to help a parent, friend, or neighbor with a chore to ease their load today just as Jesus does for us.
