Our faith drives us to do many things — go to Mass, pray, give to charity. Our faith might also drive us toward innovation and making the world a better place for others. This NPR story about one father’s faith and his son’s battle with a rare cancer shows how our faith, talents, and the world’s needs can come together to create something good. Ask young adults to read or listen to the story and then use these discussion questions to talk about times when young adults have seen — and taken — these same opportunities:

• What was your reaction to the story and the father’s quest to develop an early detection system for his son’s cancer?
• When in your life have been able to see the good in a bad situation — or make something positive come from a negative experience?
• What opportunities do you see for your faith, talents, and the world’s needs to come together to create something good?
• How might you use your gifts and talents to help make the world a better and more loving and peaceful place?
