St. Francis

Saint Francis of Assisi was born in 1183 to a rich clothing merchant. In 1204, while traveling to war, Francis had a vision and renounced his lavish lifestyle in order to follow God. He soon after started the Franciscans, the Order of Poor Ladies (Old Clares), and the Third Order of Saint Francis. Francis is documented as the first person ever to receive the stigmata, the wounds of the crucified Lord. His ministry has inspired many focus special attention on care for creation — the Earth and its creatures — including groups like this one that encourage people to take the St. Francis pledge to reduce their carbon footprint . He is the patron saint of animals and the environment. His feast day is October 4.

Young Adult Ministry Idea: If possible, meet as a group outdoors this week and spend some time in nature remembering the ministry of St. Francis and our call to care for creation today as well.
